#9: The Narwhal

This work of art is on a back door leading into one of the larger buildings on campus, Heldenfleds. I don't know who drew it, how long it's been here (at least a year now!), or why no one has erased it, but it makes me so incredibly happy to see it there everyday! It's fun when people get your sense of humor, I think I'd like to meet this mysterious artist. If it's you and you're reading this, please answer these questions! And of course, I only saw this because of my laser scope.

#8: Involvement

Here at A&M, there are over 800 clubs and organizations to be a part of. But one that is particularly close to my heart doesn't even exist...yet. I was kind of thrown into this process, but I'm already putting my all into joining a few other girls to make a TOMS Club of A&M a university recognized organization. For those who don't know, TOMS is a shoe company whose sole purpose (no pun intended) is One for One. Every time a pair of shoes is purchased a pair of shoes is given to children in need. This picture was taken at our first even, TOMS Day Without Shoes. We walked around the major areas around campus barefoot to help raise awareness. Our next event will be a Style Your Sole party where we decorate a pair of TOMS so we can wear our own original masterpieces! I'm really excited for all of this to happen, but I'm even happier that I can be a part of something that helps people out.

#7: Bisbee

Meet Bisbee. He is A&M's campus cat! Bisbee lives in the bushes near the library, and a group of students feeds him so he sticks around. I was just introduced to him today and had to get a picture. Unfortunately, I believe I woke him up from a nap, so I will try to get another!

#6: Saw Em Off

It's no big secret that our biggest rival is the University of Texas. In fact, the competition is of arch nemesis proportions. So one way we like to remind them that we are the better school is to saw the horns off their mascot, Bevo. This mural is painted on the side of my place of work, Aggieland Outfitters, and in fact this logo is now copyrighted by the company. A few years ago, UT sued AO for improper use of their plain orange longhorn logo. We added nostrils and a tuft of hair in the middle and voila, a legal insult was created!

#5: The Clock Tower

This is our clock tower! It sits at what used to be the front entrance to campus in the middle of a turnabout that leads to the academic building. I really like this because not only is it neat to look at, but it actually still chimes. And on the nights of Silver Taps (see "Academic Building"), it will chime hymns to begin the ceremony. I also when inside underneath the tower and found a plethora of quotes from Old Ags, maybe I'll post those another time!

So sorry!

So I sometimes can be a forgetful, neglecting person and I will just apologize to my blog. I'm sorry I have not updated you in about a month. The best excuse I have is that the weather has been so awful no pictures have been worth taking/I've been busy/I've been on Spring Break, take your pick. But, to atone for these sins, I've got a huge batch of some pictures I'm really quite proud of and will be glad to post. So get ready, here they come!

#4: The Academic Building

This is one of my favorite buildings architecturally. What makes the Academic Building stand out is the large copper dome on top. It's really neat to see and always a good spot to meet up with people! In fact, we stand out here in this plaza to observe Silver Taps (a memorial to honor our fallen Aggies). This used to be the front of campus, but now it's pretty central. Since it was one of the original buildings, you won't see another one quite like it around!
